CALL FOR PAPERS

THIRD ANNUAL INTERDISCIPLINARY

EMERGING SCHOLARS SYMPOSIUM ON INDIA CHINA STUDIES

April 14, 2014   The New School

(Call is only for students based at universities outside of India and China)

The India China Institute at The New School, in collaboration with the Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi, the University of Calcutta, the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies, Yunnan University, Peking University and the China Academy of Social Sciences invites submission of papers for the Third Annual Interdisciplinary Emerging Scholars Symposium on India China Studies. The symposium will be held at The New School in New York City on April 14, 2014.

This unique initiative is designed to provide a platform for researchers pursuing an advanced degree (MPhil/PhD), and young scholars who received their PhDs within the last 5 years, to present their ongoing research.   Advanced Master’s degree students from professional fields such as law, design, and architecture are also welcome to apply.   We look forward to creative interventions from any discipline, methodology, or combination thereof that address any aspect of China or India’s economic, social, cultural, and political development. Papers with a strong analytical focus on India-China interactions, comparisons, and impact will be given preference. Only papers not previously published will be accepted.

The symposium is a part of ICI’s continuing commitment to build a community of scholars who are engaged in research that focuses on innovative approaches to understanding India China relations. For nine years ICI has provided a space for the establishment and strengthening of scholarly networks for emerging scholars of India and China who wish to share their research and explore opportunities for advancing individual and collaborative scholarship. The emerging scholars program also draws on The New School’s tradition of fostering horizontal and vertical knowledge sharing across disciplines and amongst scholars in different stages of their careers.
