By Collin McClain, 09/06/2019. On a return trip back to Tapi District (post forthcoming), it came to my attention that one of the women I had photographed previously had suddenly passed away. I hope that this short posting might serve as a memorial to her. A small piece of digital ephemera to honor the image of a woman of whom there will be no more images.

Manjulaben Kantilal Gamit died of unknown causes on the 21st of July, 2019. A member of the Tapi district’s Megha Adivasi Mahila Cooperative, she also maintained a life insurance policy with VimoSEWA (insurance cooperative). The money from this insurance will be passed on to her two sons and by extension her two granddaughters, by her eldest son.

There is not much for me to say, nor is it my place to say it. However, the women of the Megha cooperative insisted I tell you of the deep role SEWA played in her life. Through the cooperative, her legacy will live on.

The following are images I took of Manjulaben (in pink) on my first trip to Tapi.
