Freedom is Not Free–A New Decameron, by Jianying Zha, ICI’s China Representative, and Katō Yoshikazu, (Oxford University Press/Hong Kong, 2020), is a record of an edited conversation that took place over a ten day period during the summer of 2018. The two writers, one from China who is American, the other from Japan who lives in China, discuss a range of issues, including the state of China, the Sino-American conundrum, the future of East Asia and how their own lives have been and are intermeshed with all of these issues.
